The South African hospitality industry is about to be put to the ultimate test, with close to 450 000 tourists expected to arrive in the country to enjoy the FIFA 2010 Soccer World Cup later this year. Estimates put the likely number of meals that will be required by these visitors at 28-million during their stay of between seven and 20 days — without even reckoning in meals for South Africans who will travel around the country to attend matches and World Cup events.
“These overseas visitors are accustomed to a high standard of food, beverages and entertainment and this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for the industry to showcase its capabilities to an international audience on such a grand scale,” says Afrox’s Kevin Munro. “This applies not only to the top end restaurants and entertainment venues such as casinos, hotels and resorts, but also to the food franchises, fast food outlets and the food and beverage sections at fan parks and corporate hospitality tents and boxes.
“To help our clients in the hospitality industry fulfill this massive task to world class standards, Afrox has prepared a unique three-pronged Sureserve gas solution,” says Munro. “We are the only company providing our Handigas (LPG), Suremix (beverage dispensing gas) and Partigas (helium for floating decorative balloons) brands through an efficient delivery, one-account service offer.
“Our fleet is already geared up to support rapid order processing and we’re making sure that we have an adequate number of cylinders to service the anticipated increase in demand, with an immediate injection of more than 2 000 large and small size cylinders into our Suremix business over the next two months and a further investment in 48kg and 9kg Handigas cylinders prior to June. Hospitality industry clients will also be able place orders and receive deliveries outside of business hours and receive technical support around the clock through our call centre on 0860 02 02 02 and via my direct line.
“We’ve been in planning meetings with local organising committees, event organisers, key food and beverage brands and local emergency services to ensure that our own facilities are in place for the hospitality industry’s increased demand during this important event.”
Munro adds that safety issues are also crucial to ensuring that hospitality gas users know, understand and apply safe operating practices relating not only to the gases they use, but also to the associated gas appliances and gas supply systems.
“All Afrox gas installations are installed to meet the highest standards by skilled LPG technicians under the authority of the local fire authorities and in line with local by-laws,” he says. “And we’re encouraging our customer base to report any safety concerns or incidents through our National Call Centre, where they will be dealt with immediately.”
Hospitality gas solution
Afrox Handigas is the leading source of heating energy in the hospitality business. It is also popular for space heating and for hot water applications, which has a very efficient energy overhead, compared with other forms of hot water heating.
Afrox Suremix, a range of high-quality, food grade beverage dispensing gases that cuts the cost of each dispensed drink, saves on storage space, reduces refrigeration overheads and simplifies stock control. Suremix provides controlled storage and dispensing of all draught beers such as lagers, ales, pilsners and stouts, as well as soda fountain soft drinks, non-carbonated wines and fruit juices.
Afrox Partigas for inflating latex party balloons is ideal for anything from branded floating balloons, to corporate events and mass balloon releases at stadiums. Using this helium product, latex balloons float for six to eight hours and self-sealing metallic balloons can last for several days.
